Interestingly, when I recompiile 5.1.0 from the tarball, I get the bad
results. I don't know why.
One thing I've noticed is the stuff with wrong file dates ending up un
aclocal/automake nightmares. A few times in the past I've forgotten to "make
distclean ; ./bootstrap.sh" before recompiling a new commit ... and sometimes
the existing object files managed to build an executable which is a random hybrid.
Once bitten twice shy -> this time I did not forget, and the results were
consistent and reproducible - otherwise "git bisect" would have gone off road :)
My "release notes" as such are in the NEWS file. Looking at it now, there is
nothing to call attention to the particular MPFR issue. I tend to focus
on changes in behavior, and not on the bugs fixed.
Okay. I've just emailed the Debian maintainer, Adrian Bunk. I do not know how
hard the backport would be (maybe some dependencies have issues); will report
here about his response.
