NOT about Kuba's enhancements, a reminder for all of us.
About Windows builds: GNU is all about open-source software and Windows is
proprietary. I once received a very strong reaction about ports to Windows.
Perhaps that explains why Win builds, 32- & 64-bit are available from other
repositories (thank you Eli Z., Volker K. and others!) PLUS there are a lot
of differences in OS interfaces that cause a lot of special code to work
around. That said, CygWin is open source and provides POSIX API
functionality that can helpful.
Bottom-line: I try hard not to burden volunteer maintainers of GNU awk with
Windows idiosyncrasies . Occasionally I do report as FYI, abnormalities I
observe during my incessant exploration of gawk. And occasionally those
reports do help reveal issues in the gawk enhancements. Which makes me feel
more useful than a pain.
The above is entirely my personal opinion, (mis)understanding, and may not
accurately communicate the philosophy of others. -john
