Yeah, it was difficult to comply with the 'Failure D-Mod' directive of
the contest ;)

About the crackling sound, it looks like FreeDink isn't the only game
that has this kind of troubles:

I tried increasing the audio buffer size in FreeDink but that didn't
help :/

Maybe you can have a look at the work-arounds from those links (adding
parameters to the audio modules, trying other SDL_AUDIODRIVER
backends, etc.)?
