Follow-up Comment #3, bug #57461 (project findutils): I was able to remove the directories trees from the command line manually. I don't know what a "snapshot" is. What I can report is that some last few findutils releases show this behaviour. The software is installed via MacPorts. It uses port to install a software package, a so-called "port." As far as I understand the system it fetches from the internet a compressed TAR file, compares its size to a value recorded in Portfile and also creates rmd160 and sha256 check sums of the downloaded TAR file.
