I have a weird problem and am wondering if anybody has seen it
before - find seems to be in an infinite loop. I'm running on
Suse9.2. kernel 2.6.8-24.14-smp. findutils 4.1.20-2 x86_64. Dual
processor Xeon.
Yes, this is a bug.
Oops, sorry I didn't spot it when I googled the list archives. Thanks
very much for your response. So the fix is clear - upgrade! I'm curious
about one detail because I'd like to stay in step with Suse if poss.
The bug was introduced in findutils version
4.2.19 and was fixed in version 4.2.22. The current stable release of
findutils (4.2.23, see ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/findutils) therefore
contains this fix. See also

The detail is that I'm running 4.1.20, according to Suses's yast. But
you say the bug was introduced later. I had found the second of these
links, but it didn't seem to match my symptoms because (a) the release
number doesn't match and (b) there's apparently no -follow on the
command that was executing on my machine. The other odd thing is that
this search runs every night and hasn't failed again, whereas the
symptoms in that bug report look like a 'hard', repeatable failure.
Thanks again for your reply,
Dave
