Ddrescue does not check the output file size because any size can be 
valid. From an inexistent file (or one of size 0), to a block device 
larger than the input device being copied.

Ddrescue never truncates the output file unless the --truncate option is 
specified.

Merging a partial copy not produced with ddrescue (i.e., without a valid 
logfile), is not a trivial task. And creating a valid logfile with an 
editor is probably the least difficult part of doing it.

What do you think about my proposed solution of truncating the logfile 
when there are no blocks marked as done in the rest of the logfile? 
(Posibbly showing a warning and asking the user before continuing).
