Hello,

I'm new on ddrescue and in Linux.
Is there a *live CD* of a Linux distro, that contains ddrescue and GNU Parted?

-------

My problem is to recover a harddisk, that lost the partition table, but must contain the data.
(The disk has installed a Windows XP).

I studied the guidelines of
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery

This plan looks the best:

1) I have to avoid mounting the damaged disc.
The best way is to use *a live CD*, open the Terminal and use the command sudo swapoff -a

2) First it is better to obtain *an image copy* of the damaged partition, which I can achieve with GNU ddrescue.

3) Using GNU Parted over the created image.

I went back to my Ubuntu 11.04, and found that both programs, ddrescue and GNU Parted are not included. So I cannot use it as a live CD for this.

I tried to check if I can use the UbuntuRepairRemix: but:
a) it offers only a terminal and is apparently too complicated and risky for a person that have just come from Windows. b) I do not know how to see the names of the disks (for example, which is deb/sdb and whic deb/sdc), to perform the commands. (I know this through to the Disk Utility -Utilidad de Discos- that is included in Ubuntu 11.) c) It contains the GNU ddrescue, but not the GNU parted, although later I could run it installing it in my Ubuntu system.

---------
Therefore:
I wonder if someone knows about a liveCD, that contains these two programs, GNU ddrescue and GNU Parted (recommended in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery ) I suggest that it might be a good idea to include both within the next live CD of Ubuntu.

Alternatively, I guess that someone could tell me what to do.
Should I use NtfsUndelete in a live CD?
It looks it only recovers files, not particions.

Many, many thanks,

Jony :-)
