Sorry but I don't know of any script able to repair random corruption in the logfile.

I would also be interested in any suggestions about what went wrong. Is a
cifs share the wrong place to be storing a ddrescue log file?

I don't exactly know what is a "cifs share", but given the (lack of) reliability of Microsoft filesystems and that many Google results for "cifs share" are about "problems with a cifs share", it doesn't seem reliable enough for a logfile.
