DDD 3.3.1 (i386-portbld-freebsd4.6 and 5.3) gets `BadWindow' error

This happend straith after I started ddd.

Other settings that might be of importance:
- ssh conection (with -X flag), already open for some time.
- The xclient machine (the one on which ddd was supposed to run)
  is a freeBSD 4.6 dual pentium 300 MHz machine.
- The xserver machine (the one on which I would like to see the
  screen and use my mouse and keyboard) is a freeBSD 5.3
  1.2 GHz laptop (Dell latitude C840).
- In previous ddd sessions there were more complains about
  X errors but it rarely caused ddd to crash.
- The version of X on both systems is X11 v6.3
