Speaking of uniq/unique, the standard cut(1) is probably responsible for that name. (I'd prefer echo over printf as a synonym; the latter implies that it should do complex formatting; if you want that use awk)

Yeah, good point. This should be fine and I've added it to my todo list.

I've also been wanting to alias 'unique' to 'uniq', since the latter is both shorter and more consistent with the existing unix command. (It is always the first thing that comes to mind, and it often catches me when I forget to use the full word "unique".)
