If it is a known problem, then if someone submits a fix, I think
it should be incorporated.

Has LockDir been available "forever"?  If not, it was introduced,
and due to lack of consideration for symbolic links, there is a
trap waiting for anyone who uses it.

The problem has been reported, and the problem has been fixed.

I don't think the problem should be swept under the carpet, just
because the line count in the patch is larger than average.
