The ~/.cvspass file moved to a canonical CVSROOT which included port
number occurred for version 1.11.1 of cvs. You will probably need to
upgrade the version of cvs on your irix machine to a newer version or
use a transport where the port number is not a problem (:ext: using
either rsh or ssh).
This may have been mentioned/described in the NEWS file that comes with
the cvs sources...
