'\' in a file name causes the name to be prepended with \
Now this isn't strictly necessary, and we considered changing it the last
release:
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/coreutils/2013-11/msg00008.html
However we decided not to change the current behavior for compat reasons
detailed in that thread.
