Thanks for the report. Can you reproduce this with coreutils 8.4?
There have been some patches to sort in the meantime, which may impact
the particular bug you reported (I haven't had time to further
investigate myself, but wanted to get this email sent.)

It is considered poor netiquette to send mail to publicly archived lists
with a disclaimer that cannot be enforced. You may want to consider
using an alternative email when communicating with technical lists, so
as to avoid your employer's legalese.
