Thanks for the tip, Eric.

5.3.0 was the latest stand-alone version I could find.
However, following your suggestion, I installed cygwin
and found this included version 6.10-2 and this doesn't
exhibit the slosh/slash bug.   :-)

BTW, sorry for the stupid disclaimer. Unfortunately,
our IT tyrants have this automatically appended by our
e-mail server and there's nothing we can do about it.
