You've used example usernames and file paths here. Please give the exact command as it's typed, and the exact reply from chown.
error message: can't find file/directory
This is not an error message that chown prints. Please do not rephrase the output; simply paste it as it appears from chown.
It's very likely that the file does not exist. Please check using "ls" that the filename and path are correct.
