sort peculiarity

Hello,

I don't know if this is a bug or a peculiarity. Anyway, I would appreciate 
to receive a feedback about how to proceed. I am using sort to eliminate 
duplicated entries in textual files, using the -u option. Sort cannot 
recognize some extended ASCII characters as different, such as the char 
decimal numbers 249 and 250.
