You are in dire need of an upgrade. fileutils has been converted over to
coreutils, and the latest stable version is now 5.97 (or you can go with
the unstable 6.1). Perhaps the upgrade will fix your problem, since I
certainly can't reproduce this issue when using a modern distribution on a
Windows platform as provided by cygwin.
