Based on the fact that you addressed this mail to bug-fileutils (an
outdated list address), you probably want to consider upgrading the
version of coreutils on your machine to the latest stable version, 5.94.
According to Sankar V (sent by Nabble.com) on 3/8/2006 11:05 PM:

This has nothing to do with coreutils; perhaps you meant to ask the
diffutils list? Which Windows compilation are you using, cygwin, mingw,
or something else - perhaps asking on their mailing list might be more
enlightening? At any rate, without profiling the program, I cannot give
an accurate answer, but I can say that many GNU programs when compiled for
Windows suffer from slowdowns imposed by the extra layers of porting
required to get the program to compile on a non-POSIX platform.
