I agree that there was never a need for a space after the #! which is
to what I think you were refering.  The man page snippet above
concurs.  I think the man page doc as quoted is fine.  At least I
don't see any doc bug there.  Perhaps you were refering to another
piece of documentation?

A very nice reference!  Thanks for posting that.  Definitely a useful
