I'm not really sure, but the patch I just attached seems like the easiest (and
best) way to fix this (but I'm not ftp protocol guru).
I tested JDK 1.5 and it auto detects directories as well, so this patch is
compatible with that behavior.
For getOutputStream I didn't see any point in handling directories. I didn't
test this, but simply surfacing the response of the ftp server seems like a
good approach to me.
