            Bug ID: 28794
Summary: Kernel build on big-endian PowerPC fails with 'Error:
                    unrecognized opcode'
           Product: binutils
           Version: 2.38 (HEAD)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: gas
Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
Reporter: glaubitz at physik dot fu-berlin.de
CC: doko at debian dot org, jrtc27 at jrtc27 dot com,
matorola at gmail dot com, schwab@linux-m68k.org
  Target Milestone: ---
              Host: powerpc*-*-*

The latest version of the binutils package in Debian, 2.37.50.20220106-2, broke
the build of the kernel on 32- and 64-bit big-endian PowerPC.

The build fails the error message "Error: unrecognized opcode", such as:

{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:1353: Error: unrecognized opcode: `ptesync'

and:

{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:2146: Error: unrecognized opcode: `stbcix'
