Maybe that syntax is truly incorrect?  I'm unable to tell.
POSIX refers to the right hand side of `-' as "word".

I'm installing the appended patch.

Zsh never performs field splitting after parameter expansion by
default.  You have to `setopt shwordsplit' or `emulate sh' for
