Alexandre,

You found my mistake:

Somehow an old home built version of GNU make (anno 2001) had snuck itself into my path. When I rebuilt automake using the 3.79 version of GNU make, and re-ran make check I got no errors.

What make, autoconf, and sh versions are you running?

Could your run the following commands and the full output?

env VERBOSE=x TESTS='aclocal4.test aclocal5.test aclocal6.test dollar.test gnumake.test lex3.test lex5.test make.test makej.test output6.test subdir8.test yacc6.test' make -e check
