Before anything else, please upgrade to automake-1.7.  
The 1.6.x branch is no longer being developed.

Here the command to run to get details about the failures.
Could you send its output to this list?

  env VERBOSE=x TESTS='foo.test bar.test ...' make -e check

Simply replace 'foo.test bar.test ...' by your list of FAILing tests.
