Automake 1.5: "make clean" does not remove all EXTRA_PROGRAMS

Subject: Automake 1.5: "make clean" does not remove all EXTRA_PROGRAMS

Dear Automake maintainers,

in Automake 1.5, one has to provide explicit rules for "make clean" to
remove EXTRA_PROGRAMS that are not built by "make all". I know that
this does not violate the GNU Makefile standards, but I would find it
very convenient if "make clean" would try harder to remove everything
listed in any _PROGRAMS or _LIBRARIES variable (excluding dist_ stuff
if such specifications are valid). Note that "make mostlyclean"
removes every object file, including those made for non-standard
targets. Therefore, having a more rigorous "make clean" would
increase overall consistency.

Sincerely,

Christian Cornelssen
