bug#20317: 11.88; LaTeX-fill-environment in xemacs and GNU emacs

Hello

Approximately since 11.85 (I only recently switched to 11.88) I noted a
sharp difference of the LaTeX-fill-environment (and friends) function.

    -  while the GNU emacs version works as a charm, fast and reliable.

    -  the Xemacs version runs considerably slower (factor 10) and in
       some cases tries to add unwanted space and prefix space as in the
       following example:

When I start 
       
LaTeX-fill-environment, the minibuffer tells me 50% formated, then the
process seems to get stuck I interrupt with C-g and see a huge empty
space added to 
\begin{enumerate}

  \item \textquestiondown Qu\'e tipo de distribuci\'on de probabilidad
  sigue X?

  Calcular la probabilidad de que se emita al menos una part\'\i cula
  en un segundo.

  \begin{equation}
    \label{eq:hoja4:26}
    X\sim P (\lambda=0.51)

A LOT OF EMPTY SPACE added



Now I know that there are no Xemacs users among the developers, but
maybe someone could point me out recent changes which had be made with
this functions so that I could ask on Xemacs-beta. Right now the filling
functions are unfortunately, for Xemacs, almost useless.
