The easiest way for all people involved is usually to make the changes
in the latest revision of respective file from CVS and send a patch.
That way you can compile AUCTeX including your changes and then at least
be sure that they don't break the compilation process.  So in the case
at hand you could have edited auctex.texi directly.

But I will have to think about where to put your changes in the main
file anyway, so it's not a problem if we go for copy and past as you
suggested.
