The latest version of doxygen is 1.8.20 (release date August 24th 2020). My version is 1.18.8.

sorry, I overlooked that. Probably because on my doxygen
version there were no warnings, even without EXTENSION_MAPPING.
Fixed in SVN 1347.

To fix that you need to set line 319 EXTENSION_MAPPING = def=C++
