2.  I'm not sure if I fully understand the conclusion of David's last longish email.  It sounded like he is abandoning the old code and moving towards a GDBM solution.  That sounds good, and I think there is likely a good fit.  I also sensed that he is proposing to use his existing implementation to represent GNU APL's conforming Annex A implementation.  Is that true?

No. I believe he was saying he'd drop the non-SQLite support. My argument was that he could change to GDBM instead of SQLite since GDBM matches his vision much more closely.

That's correct. Thanks, Elias.

As far as the existing implementation being proposed as a reference implementation of Annex A: that's also correct and will remain so with or without the change from SQLite to any other storage layer.

I would strongly prefer not to make the SQLite-only implementation the reference implementation (the one included with GNU APL) for all the reasons I've stated.  I can write a general (non-SQLite specific) implementation that supports multiple files per database this weekend.  I'd prefer to do that for many reasons, many of which were already discussed.  Additionally, as we add support for additional SQL database engines, the system would automatically work on those too.

Does that sound agreeable to everyone?

Thanks.

Blake
