Axiom has its own multi-line separator in interactive mode: "_"

e.g.

(2) -> a := 1 _
+ 2
 
   (2)  3
                                                        Type: PositiveInteger

BTW, in case of issue, it is useful to post the relevant entries from
the Axiom console...
