From my point of view, integration of elf-loader in Axiom is pretty easy - and it opens a world. At the moment limited to my laptop ;-) I started this discussion to get feedback if _this_ approach with this style of wrappers make sense or if there are better solutions in a private queue (Tim and you mentioned independently ideas of an external library/language inferface, Gaby implemented a lisp wrapper for a lapack implementation which is have the way to be usable within Axiom, ...).
