I'm thankful to Bill for helping sorting the conversion issues out.
(very few are left, but unimportant).

The probem David reported, this time, has nothing intrinsic to do with
SVN.   It is a bug in the existing makefils (whether from tla or CVS
does not matter) that SVN's way of keeping things exposes.

There is also an issue with your "recursive noise" patch, that I'll
fix in the silver branch shortly.
