This way you can use such cards with avrdude. Using the base address was also explained at the mailing list (http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/avrdude-dev/2008-07/msg00000.html) and it got a positive confirmation that it works. (http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/avrdude-dev/2008-07/msg00005.html) The patch still relies on the user to find out the base address of his hardware.
