Just make sure you're using the conf file that belongs to the most
recent version.

Still, the "expected signature FF FF FF" problem would have happened
there as well if it were a bug in avrdude.conf. (The code to read the
config file is not system-dependent.)
If you're using the wrong avrdude.conf, it could happen you're
stumbling across some issue that has already been fixed since.
