I don't know what's wrong. I did a cvs up Release-1-7-1 from
Release-1-7. 1.7 installed but 1.7.1 gives the following:
$ /usr/local/src/CVS/GNU/automake/configure --prefix=/usr
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl
checking for tex... no
checking whether ln works... yes
checking for egrep... grep -E
checking for fgrep... grep -F
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile

% make
cd /usr/local/src/CVS/GNU/automake && \
perllibdir=./lib /home/fredlwm/tmp/objdir/automake --libdir=lib --gnu Makefile
/bin/sh: line 1: /home/fredlwm/tmp/objdir/automake: No such file or directory
make: *** [/usr/local/src/CVS/GNU/automake/Makefile.in] Error 127
I also tried without objdir.
