Well, I haven't found a good way to do it for those files whose names
may be mangled (PROGRAMS and MANS when --program-prefix or so are used),
I haven't looked much at TEXINFOS and LISP but they are probably less of
a concern anyway.

This patch will be in 1.11 BTW (and eventual prereleases), not in 1.10.2.

Well, I won't backport it (although it's probably not hard to do).
What keeps you from moving to 1.10.1 though?
