The test suite passes, but

this sucks. .$(OBJEXT) is not the sole possible extension used
as output; .lo is the other possibility.
I think the following will fail
lib_LTLIBRARIES = libfoo.la
libfoo_la_SOURCES = foo.bar
.bar.y:
command
because &derive_suffix will try to lookup
$suffix_rules{.bar}{.lo} which does not exists.
I'll try to rework this area of the patch next week.
