I totally agree, i always find IDEs awkward never really liked them. I
find any language from GCC collection or others like haskell python
etc. Are much simpler to work with using emacs/vim, and any help an
IDE may give you is only in the api lookup but i prefer manual lookup
because you end up learning the lang and api better and anything else
the ide just eats your memory and cpu.

Definitely, i haven't seen any serious project that relies on IDE's
unless they are cross platform and talk about working it on windows
with msvc. But i have no idea how that works and don't really want to.

There has been increased talk of GCJ on gcc-help so maybe thats possible.

Well said ;)!

I argued this a lot with my old job to my project lead and co-workers
and ended up doing most of the work. They laughed at me writing my own
makefiles and said i was stupid, though they stole my work anyways. I
wasn't impressed. ;)
