Autoconf cache files?  As in the 'autom4te.cache' directories created
in the top level of a project when configuring?  Are those the cache
files you are talking about?

Talking about deb packages and cache files together confuses me since
they would not normally be related in any way.  The autom4te.cache
files are not packaged into the deb and are not installed onto the
system.

The Debian system uses /var/cache to hold data related to that
subsystem (e.g. /var/cache/bind for dns data) but this is not related
to autoconf in any way.

Please explain further.

Also, on a procedural note, when starting a new thread of discussion
please send a new message.  When you reply to an old thread such as
you did by replying to "test in a m4 macro and variable created from
pushdef" and then simply change the subject your message is threaded
there and anyone who is not interested in that thread and have killed
it will probably miss reading your message threaded there along with
them.
