Completely off-topic:

Now, I have a curiosity question.  Why this (unchanged) construct:

>    test -n "$tmp" && test -d "$tmp"

and not just:   test -d "$tmp"
It is sufficient for every shell I know about.  Even some pretty old
ones.  :)
