automake not working inspite of Makefile.am

Hi!!

i have a problem even though i have Makefile.am

i am getting the following error when i do automake.



address@hidden:~/mutt-1.4.2.1$ automake

automake: no `Makefile.am' found or specified

 

in configure.in AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE is also there.

i am not able to figure out as to why automake is not working.
