A little off-topic here, but..
You can rename your real Makefiles as GNUmakefile, and in `Makefile' put
something like
all:
echo "You need GNU make to build this package." 1>&2
exit 1
GNU make will use `GNUmakefile' if it sees it, and ignore `Makefile',
while other versions of make will use `Makefile' and ignore
`GNUmakefile'.
