Here is the latest pre-release:

but the mentioned *utils packages are more up-to-date concerning the GNU
framework.

Yes, that's an important issue since we all are concerned about
compatibility! Elvis already approved this feature and it was me who
added it to the to-do file. I fear it's too late to add a new feature
now since the pre-release cycle already started.
