Well, I figured it was ok because there is precedence in autoconf.texi
already, see for example
  grep -C2 'error.*\\$' doc/autoconf.texi

Smallexample might help some, but not all of these instances.
But anyway, I can just leave them out -- I left out many other long
lines because it was not clear to me how they should be handled.
