I agree.

Before a file is created (or commands executed, or something),
config.status computes the values of ac_srcdir, ac_top_builddir, etc.
The ac_abs_* variables are computed here, too, even though they are
not used in most cases.

My patch doesn't change this, it just simplifies the computation of the
ac_abs_* variables.
