Yes, I like the idea of having off-white AUCTX letters, but I'd
suggest to use the background color of the web page, #F0F0EA.
Instead, for the code color, I think that bg!70!white is too close to
bg, in the thumbnail that will be put on the web site it seems
difficult to be noticed.  We could just decrease 70, but instead what
about mixing fg and bg, in place of bg and white?  Please find
attached my code.

You can see the results as usual at
http://www.dmf.unisalento.it/~giordano/auctex-index.html  I moved to
logo to a left sidebar, with the same width and at the same level as
the navigation bar on the right.  The upper logo is your proposal, the
lower one is mine.  The logos on the page are 128px thumbnails that
point to higher resolution versions (724 px, ~2^9.5).
