Hi Ralf,

thanks for your answer!

OK, so I can take it that the current CVS snapshot is the recommended
way to go at this point?

I wanted a local user specific install of Auctex
to `~/.emacs.d/auctex` and therefore ran
`./configure --prefix='/home/gerlach/.emacs.d/auctex'
--with-lispdir='/home/gerlach/.emacs.d/auctex/elisp'
--with-texmf-dir='/home/gerlach/.emacs.d/auctex/texmf'`
followed by `make` and `make install`.

I have now investigated my issues further. Apparently they were caused
by some other conflicting entry in my init.el, a minimal
initialization file just with the basic Auctex/Reftex setup works
fine. For now I cannot yet say what went wrong. But I was to hasty to
attribute it to the development version.

Strangely there was nothing.

I will stick with this version of Auctex for now and try to
investigate what caused these bugs to appear on my Emacs.

Thanks for the support!

Max
