while i don't have experience with pdf-previewing on windows (i use linux),
i would certainly recommend looking for an alternative. google gives quite
a few options.
one problem with acrobat reader, IMHO a fatal flaw, is that it doesn't seem
to offer any way of rereading a pdf file. you have to close the file and
reopen it. then, however, you're at page 1 again. very annoying if you're
trying to get some subtle layout issues right on page so-and-so-much. a
decent pdf viewer allows you to reread the file while staying on the same
page.
mmm. sumatra pdf viewer is open source, and has a reread function. that
would be the first thing i'd try...
