I'm trying to install AucTex under windows and I'm using EmacsW32 (http://ourcomments.org/Emacs/EmacsW32.html). I don't want to compile everything, do I have to?
Compiling AucTeX is pretty harmless, more on the scale of what's called "installation" with other software. (You don't need an extra compiler, for instance.)
If you use EmacsW32, you might want to update it; a new version of the distribution came out yesterday that had a bug fixed that prevented AucTeX from compiling properly.
